Workplace Essential Skills Training
Essential Skills are the skills needed for work, learning, and life. They provide the foundation for learning all other skills. Academic Express has been delivering Workplace Essential Skills Training to employers in Central Alberta since 2010 and at Community Adult Learning Centers in rural Alberta starting in January 2019.
Training is provided in the following areas:
Numeracy: Basic math skills- taking measurement, basic budgeting
Reading: Understanding material written in sentences and paragraphs
Document Use: Using graphs, charts, reading labels
Writing: Basic writing skills- filling out forms, writing a resume
Working with Others: Being a team player, networking to get a job
Communication Skills: Resolving conflict, being assertive, improving interview skills
Problem-Solving: Managing change, decision-making, problem-solving
Computer Use: Setting up a work-friendly email address, social media, online job-search
Continuous Learning: Continuing to improve skills and knowledge
